Captain's Corner
19 March 2009
When I was first approached by the club CEO to write a column on our website, I thought why not? It gives me a good opportunity to voice my opinion, air any dirty laundry and most importantly motivate the team. This week I thought I would talk about the one thing that will get us through this season and leave us in good stead for the future. That one thing my friends is PASSION.
Passion isn’t one of those things that you can expect people to have; passion is something that has to be nurtured and encouraged. As the new club captain I hope to embody passion and lead by example and I expect my players to strive for their best. To play with passion is to play with heart and it shows the fans that we mean business.
Passion can come in many forms; the love of a wife, the love of a child, the love of beer, the love of a boat, the love of fishing (in no particular order of preference). I know these things are important to be passionate about, but in my opinion our number one passion should always be Racing Guantanamo. “Why?” I hear you say, because without the club we are no longer super human, we only exist as mere mortals. I want the fans to know that their team will BLEED ORANGE and do what ever it takes to have success in this years B - Liga.
We have been slandered by the association and been rated as 1000:1 rank outsiders in taking out the coveted BSA title. We need to prove that we are not the laughing stock of the Broome Soccer Association, we should use this slur as motivation to show to the doubters that Racing Guantanamo are a force to be reckoned with. Just like we did this week.
Let’s set our sights high, play with passion, play with courage and dignity and aim to be the best soccer team in Northern Australia. We can do it!
Let us embody our new motto:
Crudus Orange Pro Exercitus
“Bleed Orange for the Team”
Keep Kicking Goals,
Captain Andy “Blood, Sweat and Beers” Smyth |
