Captains Corner

26th March 2009

Well fans, what a start to the 2009 futsal season. The victory over Blue Hypes was one of the best displays of team football that I have ever witnessed. It made me so proud to see the team play hard, classy and passionate football (almost brought a tear to my eye).

Last week I issued the challenge of playing with passion and every single member of the team stepped up and delivered. It was fantastic to see Chris Hingston find his feet and score his first goal in the league; it was a corker. It has also been a recruiting coup for us to sign Mark Hunter and Martin Kessler, two of the most passionate footballers that I have ever had the pleasure of playing with. Yes, it is big pats on the back all round from me and I’m sure that the club committee and the fans are chomping at the bit to see our next performance against the Grasshoppers.

What I do want to avoid though is complacency and we must continue to put together these fantastic team performances. We cannot let our guard down and we have to continue to play with the spirit that is beginning to define Racing Guantanamo as a formidable footballing force (thought I’d throw in a bit of alliteration). We may lose some games along the way, but we must always hold our heads high and be proud of our efforts.

This week I want to introduce another adjective to the club ethos, and that my friends is Respect. Respect is something that is earned and can never be expected. It is my hope that Racing Guantanamo is finally earning that respect from our opposition and is no longer seen as the easy beats of the Broome Des Liga. Need I remind us of the 1000:1 slur that was placed upon us by the media (it still fires me up)?  We must always respect our opposition and take each game as it comes. By showing respect to each other, the fans, the club and above all the great game of football we will continue to grow and develop into a great team.

I hope that everyone enjoys their week off and look forward to our next game. To the players, thank you. To the fans, keep supporting us and always remember; Crudus Orange pro Exercitus.

Keep Kicking Goals
