Captains Corner

18/5/09

Well we made it to the end of the season and finished it in good style. To win against the Razzle Dazzlers was a fitting end to the season and it was great to see the team bounce back from the demoralising loss to SANGA. Big pats on the back go to Kane, for his goal scoring prowess and to the cat like reflexes and steely determination of Francois “The Rock” Krueger. Big Terry “TITANIC” Ragoonanan played his best game of the season and as usual Raiko and Kessler showed their European flair. It was a great game and has really got me chomping at the bit for the outdoor season later this year.

I really have to thank the team for a great season. Everyone has stepped up to the challenge each week, which has lead to some brilliant performances over the six matches. I mean if Ryan Platten can score three goals in a season it has to be a good one.

Danny Pinchas and Tim Gray were awesome this season and could always be relied on to bolster the defence or provide some sting in attack. Raiko and Marty were by far our most consistent and reliable players who were creative, resilient and potent in front of goals. Kane Fitzpatrick was a running machine who never gave up and Big T gave his all throughout the season.

Joel Hamling was given the vice-captains role this season and he handled the pressure well. It was a lot of responsibility to place on his young shoulders and the experience will see Joel continue to develop as a leader at the club over coming seasons.

Let’s not forget the athletic goal keeping of Mark Hunter. His three games in goal will go down in Guantanamo folk lore, as they were all legendary performances. Speaking of legendary performances, you cannot go past THE ROCK for his spirited comeback and awesome presence in the Guantanamo goal.

This brings me to the Captains Award winner, Chris Hingston who was the most improved player throughout the season. Chris was always reliable and dedicated to the team; he scored his first goal and became a more confident player as the season progressed. Thanks Chris for your dedication to Racing Guantanamo and keep that media juggernaut rolling.

Thanks also to the Broome Soccer Association for a great season and a fantastic wind up at The Divers Tavern. Everyone was in awe at our performance of Orange Submarine (great suggestion Kane) and as a result I was inspired to pen a club anthem, check it out in the Team section of the site.

Once again thanks a lot to everyone for a great season, thanks to the fans for your support and I look forward to the outdoor season in September. Could there be a controversial signing? Or is Ken Goatley really MeatLoaf? As always Crudus Orange Pro Exercitus.

Keep Kicking Goals
