Captains Corner

20/10/09

Well fans and air conditioners I know I’ve been a bit slack with my Captains Corner, but it’s only because I’ve been in a sorry state of depression since our dramatic loss against Broome City. If there was one game I really wanted us to win, it was that one.

In the last Captains Corner (I know it never got posted, but you can blame the Guantanamo IT department for that one) I banged on about us making HISTORY, but unfortunately we didn’t. This was a shame but I do know that we gave it our best shot and if it wasn’t for those five lousy minutes of poor play, we may have just stolen the game.

Anyhoo, I’ve never been one to cry over spilt milk (spilt beer maybe, but not milk) so I have picked myself up, dusted myself off and am getting prepared for our next clash against last years champions NDFC, I think we can win this one. However again we will be required to do those things we do well like, moving the ball around, swift counter attacking and of course that Guantanamo grit that the fans have come to know and love.

I can promise you that as the Captain of this fine footballing club; I will do my best to lead and inspire the team to our second victory of the season. I have been very critical of my own performance over the last two games (as it has been quite poor) and I think that it is about time I put my money where my mouth is. In other words I am challenging myself and each and everyone of the Guantanamo soldiers to rise to the occasion and teach NDFC a footballing lesson. IT IS OUR TIME.

Call me crazy, but I am also suggesting that we need to re-energize ourselves and get back that team spirit that has made us great in recent times. No I’m not talking about a trip to the pub my friends, I am suggesting that we actually start a regular Sunday training session (“WHAT”, I hear the fans say, “they don’t train???”).

So starting next Sunday at 5pm, I think that it would be a great idea if as many of the lads as possible could gather at Father McMahon oval for a kick around and a bit of fitness. What do you say??? Do you have the passion??? Do you bleed orange???... the challenge is on.

Until next time keep kicking goals.
