Heartbreak for Sporting, but Racing Live to Fight Another Day

Wednesday, 12th May 2010

After an emotionally charged and controversial Kruger Bowl last week where Sporting took the flowers and chocolates in emphatic style, both lineups came into this re-match first final knowing that a loss would put them out of contention. This was finals and both teams wanted to win and continue there premiership dream.

The Racing boys were fired up before the game and vengeance was surging through the veins. Sporting were confident of another upset and Andy “fired up” Smyth gave them a pre match speech full of passion. But Racing shot to the lead going 2-0 up after the 5 minute mark and Sporting were left gob smacked. Steely determination in defense from a best game performance to date by Ryan “Smash ‘em” Platten cutting down Martin “Softy” Whittaker’s offensive press and Martin “Fritz” Kessler showing support, it was a hungry Racing outfit keen to amends last weeks game.  Double teaming on Luke “I’m too sexy” Turner throughout the match saw the fiery forward outplayed by his rivals. A best on ground show by Kait “yeah man” Lokk dominated all over the arena and Sporting were looking for inspiration at the half time toilet break.

Sporting came into the second half facing an up hill battle and battled up hill they did. Racing did not let up and Sporting were desperate. Tim “gutsy” Gray tried doggedly in the middle to motivate his side. Some shots on goal from Sportings forwards might have been fruitful if only for some outstanding saves from Gareth “Orange Gaz” Vickery letting in one goal for the match dampening the spirits of Sporting. Thank “Quiet” U Tan was shut down for most of the match following last week’s dominance, and the men of Sporting couldn’t pierce the hardy defense. The Racing brigade snuffed out any chance of a surprise comeback late in the game and showed their authority prevailing 7-1. Racing was back and Sporting were left wondering what could have been. The title race is on. Go for glory. Bleed Orange.
