Super Start to Season For Guantanamo Wednesday, 18th August 2010
Although Broome City was undermanned and Racing was overloaded with players (everyone wants to play for us) it was a game of strategy and Owner Ryan Platten and Captain Andy Smyth implemented a 5 man midfield in response to a dismal pre season. With new signings and the ever present old firm Racing took it to the opposition. The orange brigade was dogged in defense and the passing was solid through the midfield and the forwards were allowed space to attack and were unlucky early. Alaskan signing Archie Card was bullock like and is destined for a roaming defending/midfield role and other new signing Rob Viskovich also worked hard through the middle and looked comfortable. Martin Kessler was again his usual efficient self. The team seemed to gel nicely for the majority of the match, some sloppy throw ins allowed City to press but were denied by some great saves from Andy Chapman. Some cool passing gave Joel Hamling his first goal of the year and Racing were bubbling at the prospect of a win at the half time interval. After a calming talk from Captain Blood, Racing went to sleep and City struck back with a leveler, Racing dug deep. Tim Gray did not play due to injury but he was instrumental in managing the substitutions. After a few firm positive passing efforts around the goal box, Martin Whittaker found space and curled the Jabulani ball to the top right hand corner of the goals and sealed the victory. The season has kicked off in grand style for Guantanamo, let’s hope for a continued effort for the remainder of the season and push for premiership glory. Final Score Racing Guantanamo Matchday Squad
